Bomb Iran?

Question: Should the U.S. bomb Iran? Bob Strum, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Answer: The fact that people are asking the question should tell everyone that there is a serious problem going on with Iran. I definitely think that Iran having access to nuclear weapons is an extremely bad thing -- not only for the United States, but for the Iranian people, the countries of the Middle East and the rest of the world. I do not think that Israel will allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. They certainly should not. Nor should we. I do not think that the world can allow Iran to have nuclear weapons. If it comes to it, we should bomb Iran to stop the development of their nuclear technology. It has become apparent that Iran is assisting terrorists to fight us in Iraq. Perhaps we should attack Iran to stop that supply of munitions and terrorists to Iraq. Perhaps more specialized bombings could do the same thing. Iran is a nation whose current leaders are intent on causing harm and discontent throughout the world. Most of the Iranian people are good people who do not share the idiotic views of their leaders. However, if the leaders get control of nuclear weapons, they will use them. We cannot allow that. Consequently, I hate it for the Iranian people but I think that, ultimately, Iran is going to have to be bombed. To sit back and pretend that Iran does not represent a real and serious threat to people everywhere is the action of either a fool or an American Democratic politician. It is not an answer I like but it is an answer that I think is inevitable -- someone needs to bomb Iran. I think it should be selective bombing with genuine threats of additional bombing to follow. For example, either the government of Iran does "this," OR "such and such" facility will be destroyed. This way, we could achieve our goals with Iran while keeping the loss of life to a minimum. It's not nice but then the Iranian government is not nice nor do they have kind plans for the rest of the world. Until they are taken out, they will continue to cause problems and strife throughout the world. If they would sit over there and mind their own buisness, then I'd say "leave them be." But we know that they are exporting terror to Iraq and other areas of the world. Their own stated intentions include the destruction of Americans and America. Ideally, they would be removed and replaced with a democracy.
