Rosie and Carbon Offsets are Bunk!

Question: I don't understand this thing about planting trees instead of conserving energy. Can you explain it? And also, what about Rosie O'Donnell's statement that America is a terrorist nation? Do you think there is anything to it? Ramona Moore, Columbia, South Carolina.

Answer: I used your question, Ramona, because the carbon offset issue is real and because I have received over a dozen questions about Rosie O'Donnell. Regarding Rosie O'Donnell, please see my response on February 26, 2007. I absolutely do not care at all what Rosie O'Donnell says about anything. From the little I have seen on news clips, she is an extremely ignorant and a not very intelligent person. I simply do not care anything about her and will not waste any of my time watching or reading about her.
Regarding planting trees instead of reducing one's pollution, it is all a scam. For information about global warming, see my answer on October 6, 2006. This tree planting scam is called carbon offsets. Supposively, one can keep polluting and using excessive energy and offset their carbon "footprint" by paying some company to plant so many trees to offset one's carbon input into the atmosphere. It is all bunk. Ignore it. And certainly do not plant trees or pay anyone to plant trees as an "offset" for you. I love trees and plant many myself. I encourage you, Ramona, and everyone to plant trees. But not as a carbon offset. Rather, plant them for their beauty and the homes they provide for wildlife. Carbon offsets are only for non-thinking people.

Wrong on Illegals

Question: Like many other new readers to your blog, I have gone back and read all your answers. Well done, by the way! You seem to support President Bush's positions. My question for you is: Is there some policy or area in which you think President Bush is completely wrong? Barry Johns, Bakersfield, California.
Answer: Thank you, Barry. I expect that, 75 - 100 years from now, President Bush will be recorded in history as one of our better Presidents. His unyielding support for freedom and liberty will be a strong legacy. However, there is one area in which I think President Bush is wrong and that is with illegal immigration. I certainly have nothing against legal immigration but I have genuine concerns over the manner in which illegal immigration has been tolerated. The mass media and the Democrats refuse to see the word "illegal" in front of the word immigration. They try to make anyone who opposes illegal immigration to be a racist or bigot or something. But I expect that from them. I think that President Bush should be tougher in his enforcement of the current laws regarding illegal immigration. I think that there are realistic alternatives to pardoning millions of illegal immigrants who are already in this country. I think President Bush is wrong with the way he had handled this problem and with his proposals for granting them "temporary" work permits. No other nation in the world would accept millions of illegal immigrants nor should they. We should not either!
